One of the core values at Horizon is community. This is felt in every area of life at Horizon!

So how does it work?

Our staff and faculty model this in their relationships with each other and provide a high level of student care and a focus on community building.

What about dorms?

A Bible school that doesn’t have a dorm may seem strange to some, but we recognize our unique opportunities and strive to create an environment where community is still prioritized! It is important to us that students experience the benefits of a strong and loving Christian community while attending Horizon.

Here are some ways we prioritize community at Horizon:

Orientation

We begin each school year with College Orientation, which includes information sessions, chapel, and lots of food (including a family BBQ!). This is a great way to get to know the campus and meet the students and staff!

College Student Retreat

Immediately following Orientation is our student retreat. College students, staff, and faculty spend 3 days together offsite at a local Bible Camp. This includes a mix of scheduled activities and free time, as well as chapels and campfires. The focus is fellowship community building through worshipping together, having fun, and getting some time to relax before studies begin. This is a great way to kick off the year and get to know each other!

Life Groups

College students are encouraged to be part of a Life Group, which meet alternating weeks on Thursdays after class. Life Groups are led by a staff or faculty member and include 5-8 students per group. The vision for Life Groups is community building in small groups through personal connection, spiritual disciplines, community outreach, and social activities.

Chapel

Chapel is open to all students (college & seminary), and attendance is strongly encouraged! These times are set aside to come together for worship through music, scripture readings, communion, prayer, and to hear from a guest speaker. Chapels are on alternate weeks Thursdays after class.

Community Lunches

Once a month Horizon provides a catered lunch on campus for all students (college & seminary), staff, and faculty. We believe sharing a meal together is an important part of community!

Student Council Events

Student Council runs multiple social and spiritual events for college students each month. These can include study nights (there is usually pizza involved!), potlucks, video game tournaments, prayer meetings, worship nights, community outreach, and more! Student Council also runs the student Christmas Banquet and the After Grad Party.

Library

Our campus library is open evenings and Saturdays during the school year. Students can study in groups or individually. The library is also open to the public, so bring your friends from other schools to come study with you!

The Common Room (on campus)

During building office hours the Common Room is open to students for studying, eating lunch, socializing, or doing group work. This is a casual atmosphere with couches, tables, ping pong, board games, and a Nintendo Switch. There are also two study rooms available to book.

Student Services

Our staff and faculty are available for student care, prayer, and mentorship. Being part of a smaller community, you will get to know your professors and the staff members personally!

Other perks of being located in Saskatoon:

  • Involvement with Young Adults groups at local churches; there are lots of church communities to plug into!
  • City wide worship events, retreats, and spiritual workshops (with ministries such as RedRoom and Sisterhood)
  • If you are already from Saskatoon, you can stay connected with your home church, even doing your Ministry Formation or internship placements there.
  • We also welcome students who are in their “Plus” portion of studies (check out our Plus+ Programs here) to stay connected with us and join us for all community events! This means connection with Christian students from other colleges and universities in Saskatoon.

We welcome YOU to join our Horizon community!
