Our goal and focus at Horizon is to prepare leaders for Christian life and ministry, whether that ministry be volunteer or professional. We aim to make our students better and more reflective thinkers about God and about Christian responsibility in our world. We aim to equip our students to be skilled practitioners of the Christian faith, ready for hands-on ministry in the local church and other settings. Whether you're preparing for professional ministry or are planning to transfer classes to the University of Saskatchewan or to go on to another vocation, it's essential to us that each student at Horizon more intimately develops her or his personal relationship with God. More specifically, though, our aim is to prepare you to live out that relationship concretely, practicing real-life, hands-on Christianity.

Meet some of the outstanding people God has recently called to Horizon.

Dr. Harry Strauss joins us in the combined roles of Registrar and Internship/Ministry Formation Coordinator. Dr. Strauss earned a doctorate at Fuller Theological Seminary, and brings a wealth of ministry experience, most recently from Forest Grove Church, Saskatoon.

Mrs. Stephanie Christianson is filling a new position of Academic Assistant, where she will help ensure our academic policy and competency-based education expectations are consistently applied. Stephanie earned her B.A. at Bethany College and M.A. Theology at Briercrest Seminary. We look forward to her teaching our Worldviews course this winter.

Ms. Rachel Kotei joins our team as a competent library technician. Rachel (pronounced “Ra-hel”) took the library technician program at Sask Polytech and will manage our library resources and capably help our students with all their library-related needs!

Part-time Maintenance Worker

Job Purpose Summary:
The purpose of this position is to provide well-maintained facilities and attractive grounds for our students, staff, and community.
Key Responsibilities:
• Building Maintenance
o Communicate with supervisor and main office on repair and maintenance issues
o Assess, prioritize and perform minor repairs/maintenance in a timely manner
o Obtain quotes and arrange for external contractors, when necessary
o Ensure regular required maintenance is scheduled and completed
 Annual clearing of sewer lines, inspection of fire and alarm systems etc.
 Semi-annual carpet cleaning, or as required
• Grounds Maintenance
o Includes maintenance of lawns, parking lots, trees, etc.
o Boxelder beetle and worm control, specifically
o Supervision of student workers where applicable
• Equipment maintenance
o Perform or arrange for required maintenance on college-owned equipment (e.g. steam boilers, HVAC units, etc.)
• Purchase maintenance supplies as required
• Attend weekly staff meetings
Role Specific Competencies:
• Basic (minimum) maintenance experience
• Able to take task from assessment to completion, including clean up, in a timely manner
• Must have own vehicle to use for supply runs, etc.
• Flexibility of schedule to account for unanticipated repairs
• Committed to the highest standard of work possible (older building)
• Able to enjoy a challenge but discerning as to when to seek help
• Connection and authentic alignment with the HCS mission

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Harry Strauss is joining the Horizon College & Seminary team, serving in the dual roles of Registrar and Internship/Ministry Formation Coordinator.

Harry just concluded 19 years of professional ministry at Forest Grove church, where he served in various capacities. He earned his Doctorate at Fuller Theological Seminary, his MDiv at Southwestern Baptist Seminary, and his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Saskatchewan. Harry has led and volunteered with various boards and clubs through his many years of professional ministry experience.

Harry is an established statesman in the Saskatoon Christian community and has been deeply invested in the Saskatoon Evangelical Ministerial Fellowship (SEMF) for many years. We prayerfully believe he is called and is the right person to serve with Horizon at this important time in our history, and we are grateful to have him serving with us!
