Degree Concentrations

A focus within a degree major

Anabaptist Studies

SK Mennonite Brethren

Horizon students have the option of taking an Anabaptist Studies concentration within any of our college professional ministry degree programs.

This degree concentration consists of a minimum of 6 credits in Anabaptist studies plus a 4-8 month internship at a Saskatchewan Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches approved ministry.

The concentration gives students exposure to the theology and practices of the Anabaptist tradition and the opportunity to be formed within the context of Anabaptist ministry.

Pentecostal Studies

Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada
Church of God in Western Canada

Parallel to the Anabaptist Studies concentration, we also offer a concentration in Pentecostal Studies.

The concentration consists of 6 credits in Pentecostal studies and a 4-8 month internship at a ministry that is part of a Pentecostal denomination.

The concentration gives students exposure to the theology and practices of the Pentecostal tradition and the opportunity to be formed within the context of a Pentecostal ministry.

Common Questions

How is a concentration different than a major?

A major is a focus of study that typically consists of one third to three quarters of a degree program (40+ credits). At Horizon, majors are indicated in the name of each of our degree programs. For example, a BA in Entrepreneurial Ministry indicates that the student is majoring in entrepreneurial ministry.

How is a concentration different than a minor?

A concentration is a focus of study (12+ credits) that is directly related to a person’s major. By contrast, a minor is taken in any field that is not related to a person’s major. Horizon does not offer any minors.

Why are concentrations only available for the professional ministry degree programs?

At the college level, the professional ministry degree programs are the only programs that require an internship of 6-12 credits, and the internship is an integral time of formation within a particular Christian tradition.
