Course Delivery

Horizon delivers courses to you in a variety of formats:

1-Week Modules

Modules allow you to take the classroom portion of an entire course in only 5 days. Following the module, you have six weeks to complete assignments and coursework. This is a great option if you have limited time to study!

6-Week Terms

Term courses run for 3 hours on Mondays and Wednesdays for 5 weeks. The 6th week is set aside for you to complete any revisions to assignments so you can meet competency. This style is great if you work and can be excused for a couple hours a day to study!

4-Month Semesters

Semester courses meet once per week over a 4-month semester (September-December or January-April). These courses typically meet for a 3-hour block on Tuesday’s, though we occasionally run weekly afternoon or evening courses in 3-hour blocks.

Livestream Video

You can join many of Horizon’s courses from anywhere in the world by livestream over the internet. This is ideal if you want to study at Horizon from a distance. There are some limitations, and livestreaming requires you to have adequate internet on your end.

Video on Demand

If you can’t join when a class is running live, many courses have lectures captured daily and uploaded to our video site. VOD students will engage with all of the recordings within specified time-frames to keep pace with the in-class students.

Online Video

With Online Video, you don’t have set times to view lectures or attend class, although you do have deadlines for watching lectures and completing assignments, and requirements to interact with other online students in the course. These are offered on an as-requested basis and must be approved through the Registrar’s office (registrar@horizon.edu).

Directed Study

If on-campus, livestream, or recorded courses aren’t options for you, faculty are often able to work with you to customize a course into a traditional, distance learning experience. Often these opportunities come from direct conversation with the faculty, but you can also check for options with our Registrar (registrar@horizon.edu).
