Canada’s Competency-Based Christian Leadership College

The world needs competent leaders.

If it wasn’t evident before, our current reality acutely reveals the importance of competent leadership. Neither a traditional “Bible college” nor a discipleship school, Horizon is a unique, multi-denominational institution focused on preparing competent Christian leaders who are ready to serve God effectively in the 21st century.

Horizon College & Seminary

Our goal and focus at Horizon is to prepare leaders for Christian life and ministry, whether that ministry be volunteer or professional. We aim to make our students better and more reflective thinkers about God and about Christian responsibility in our world. We aim to equip our students to be skilled practitioners of the Christian faith, ready for hands-on ministry in the local church and other settings. Whether you're preparing for professional ministry or are planning to transfer classes to the University of Saskatchewan or to go on to another vocation, it's essential to us that each student at Horizon more intimately develops her or his personal relationship with God. More specifically, though, our aim is to prepare you to live out that relationship concretely, practicing real-life, hands-on Christianity.

From one of our professors:
“If you wonder what it is like to be a teacher these days ... imagine an empty classroom, a computer monitor (or four) and 15 students from three provinces. I am thankful for the Internet's ability to manage meetings. I am equally thankful for the ability our students show to make the best of a challenging situation. I must admit that I ache for the vibrancy of face-to-face interactions. Blessings to all of the teachers and students out there who are continuing to give their best through troubling times, with the confidence that their hard work and patience will pay rich dividends.” - Pastor Bob

I don't want to perpetuate the falsehood that "everything is available on the internet" because it's not. As long as publishers can make money, your QUALITY resources remain locked behind copyright, leaving you mostly out of print and non-peer-reviewed freebies up for grabs online. Published books and libraries are ESSENTIAL for quality study.

That said, the libraries are closed. 😢

As our students and our pastors look to produce quality assignments and quality sermons, I'd like to share some online resources that might help. In particular, at the end of this list is Tyndale Seminary (Toronto)'s Reading Room that gives you access to portions of in-copyright material through Google Books - often enough of a glimpse for what you're after if exploring a particular passage in a commentary. Tyndale House Cambridge is also great, and the STEP Bible is an amazing resource for looking at how words were used in different ways *Note: there's no such thing as "The Hebrew" or "The Greek" definition of a word...Usage determines meaning! (Take my course! 😁)
