Thank you for considering Horizon College & Seminary!

We know these are unpredictable and in many cases uncomfortable times, and we want to assure you that if you are feeling called to pursue a Christian leadership education this fall, then we are here for you!

As a registered college in the province of Saskatchewan, we are continually adjusting as the province moves through the various phases of the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan under direction of the Ministry of Health and the Chief Health Officer.

You probably have many questions about the fall so we will answer them the best we can with the most up-to-date information we have.

Here’s what we can say so far:

Will there be on-campus classes in September?

Right now, the Ministry of Health is producing guidelines to instruct all institutions of higher education regarding what will be required to host on-site classes safely in September. Once we have those guidelines we will be able to make a definitive statement about September.

Meanwhile, it’s important to note that Horizon runs classes on a 6-week term system. That means even if we aren’t able to accommodate students fully onsite in September, we’re well positioned to transition smoothly onsite every few weeks as provincial regulations allow. For various start points, see our fall College course schedule here and our Seminary course schedule here.

Does Horizon provide living accommodations? (And should I move to Saskatoon to study?)

Horizon does not have a dorm. Instead, we are working with college alumni Nathan and Melanie Cressman of Cressman Realty and Property Management to provide student housing within easy walking distance of our new campus.

When deciding whether to relocate to Saskatoon, students must weigh two realities:

On one hand, at this stage we cannot state definitively whether we will be able to fully host onsite classes in September. We will transition onsite as quickly as we are able to, subject to Ministry of Health guidelines, but courses may be online for all or part of the 2020-2021 academic year.

On the other hand, accommodations are available first-come, first served, so students wanting to secure housing for study in Saskatoon should apply as soon as possible. See our website here.

Will Horizon be offering online classes this fall?

Horizon has been offering many of our classes online for years, and we’ll continue to do so this fall. Horizon’s online formats include live-stream, video on demand, and online directed study. See our distance education page here. This fall, we are also partnering with churches to offer learning hubs where students can gather and learn at a local church that broadcasts in Horizon classes. You can listen to our students Tyrone and Josue talk about their hub experience here.

It’s also worth hearing that when COVID-19 forced us to transition fully online this Spring, our students reported 100% satisfaction with the quality of instruction that they received online. We have great students, for sure! And we have great faculty committed to the quality of your online learning experience.

What about the Global Discipleship Certificate program?

This Spring, Horizon was thrilled to announce our 8-month Global Discipleship Certificate that partners with Multiply to combine studies at Horizon and a cross-cultural mission experience.

The travel portion of the Global Discipleship Certificate program is not slated until March 2021, so it is too soon to say what international travel restrictions will be at that time. We will make a decision regarding the travel portion of the program on October 15, 2020. If travel restrictions stay in place, students enrolled in the Certificate will have the option to either 1) migrate their courses into a different Certificate program and graduate in April 2021, or 2) complete their Horizon courses and participate in the travel portion of the program the following year and graduate with the Global Certificate then. Either way, we won’t let your studies go to waste!

When are you moving into your new building?

In case you haven’t heard, Horizon is moving into a brand-new building! It is currently under construction and we are on schedule to move in by Christmas. We will operate from the new facility in January. Check out our Facebook page for up-to-date pictures on the progress!

Stay Strong!

Although these are uncertain times, we believe God uses such times to challenge and refine his people. We are committed to the ministry God has laid upon us, and we would love to welcome you to study with us this fall. Listen to a message from our president here, and stay tuned for further updates!
