Unquestionably, our world is in uncertain times! The outbreak of COVID-19 has produced a range of reactions, making it sometimes difficult to discern which voices to listen to.
At this stage of the outbreak, Horizon will continue operating cautiously as usual. Although many larger institutions have wisely ceased their regular activities, Horizon is comparatively much smaller, well out of scale to these other institutions. Even at maximum capacity we don’t come even close to reaching the minimum threshold indicated by health officials for not gathering, and no current students or staff are participating in international travel.
Nevertheless, although we are operating well within the health authorities’ guidelines we remain vigilant to maintain the highest levels of hygiene within our facility, and we call on our staff and students to be personally vigilant in frequent hand-washing, limiting social touching, and staying home if you are feeling ill. If you do present even mild symptoms of the virus, stay home and inform the public health authority (dial 811 in Saskatchewan).
We are monitoring this situation day-by-day and are preparing to take further measures immediately under direction of our health authorities. As a people and institution of faith, we want to model Jesus in this crisis both in our courage and our wisdom. “In this world you will have trouble,” says Jesus. “But have courage! I have overcome the world!” (John 16:33).
Thank you, and God bless you all.
