The Wilfred and Winnie Paddock Memorial Entrance
Level Scholarship
Two scholarships are available to students entering at
the freshman year level of a diploma or degree program
who, in the estimation of the admissions committee, show
leadership potential and give evidence of a definite calling
to the ministry. Applications for the scholarship must be received by August
1.
Wilson Scholarship Entry Level
An entry level scholarship awarded to a married student(s)
entering at the freshman level of a diploma or degree
course in the pastoral stream. Applications for the scholarship
must be received by August
1.
Valedictorian Plaque (Horizon)
Presented to the graduating student who has obtained the
highest grades among those who have completed all the
requirements for graduation.
The One Year Plaque (Horizon)
Presented to the student in the One Year Course with the
highest Weighted Percentage Average.
The Alumni Scholarships
Awarded to two undergraduate students, one male
and one female, planning to return the following term
who, in the estimation of the faculty, have shown the
greatest dedication towards studies and general Christian
development in accordance with their ability.
The R.K. Wright Memorial Scholarship
Given to a First Year Theology student who shows
promising ability in music and has the intention of going
into some field of the ministry.
The Cantelon Memorial Scholarship
Granted by Calvary Chapel, Neepawa, in memory of the
late Rev. and Mrs. Elmer Cantelon, to a graduating student
who intends to serve in a pioneer or church planting
ministry. If no graduating students meets this criteria,
the award will be given to a student who has graduated
from Horizon College within the last two years and intends
to serve in such capacity. In the event that neither a
graduating student nor a previous graduate meets the
criteria, the scholarship will be carried over and awarded
the following year(s) to an individual who fulfils the
conditions of the scholarship.
Dr. Donald Pettit Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to the Second Year Theology student with
the highest Weighted Percentage Average for that year.
Anne Heyer Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a returning student of upstanding
character and integrity who has, over the past twelve
months, shown commitment to God’s work by giving time
and abilities to a PAOC ministry. This person must display
the desire to make a substantial contribution to ministry,
whether full-time or as a lay person. The recipient of
the scholarship shall consider their life-long contribution
to the work of God to be of paramount importance.
The C.H. Stiller Memorial Scholarship
Given in memory of former president, the Reverend
C. H. Stiller, to a junior student who, in the opinion
of the faculty, gives evidence of Christian scholarship
and spiritual leadership among peers and in ministry.
As well, the person will be of good Christian character
and convictions.
The Elim Tabernacle Award
Given by Elim Tabernacle in Saskatoon to the
senior student who, in the estimation of the faculty,
has given most freely of time and effort to the ministry
of a Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada church while a student
at Horizon.
The Mabel Olson Memorial Award
Awarded to a graduating senior who is going into
the ministry, preferably to one who has successfully completed
the Internship Program.
Sask. Women’s Ministries Award
Granted by the Women’s Ministries Department
of the Saskatchewan District to the graduating female
student who has demonstrated positive leadership skills
and has potential in ministering to women.
Man./N.W. On Women’s Ministries Award
Given by the Manitoba/N.W. Ontario Women's Ministries
Department to a female student from Manitoba/N.W. Ontario
who is entering her senior year at Horizon and who demonstrates
acceptable scholarship, positive Christian character,
and a commitment to personal ministry.
J. Eustace Purdie Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to two students who will be returning
in the Fall, who have demonstrated good scholarship, exemplary
Christian character and a desire to minister.
Wilson Scholarship
Awarded to two students who will be returning
in the Fall, who have demonstrated good scholarship, exemplary
Christian character and a desire to minister.
The L. Johnson Memorial Music Scholarship
Presented to a Second Year student planning to
return the following term who, in the opinion of the faculty,
demonstrates above average abilities and leadership qualities
in music ministry.
The Grace Brown Scholarship
Awarded to the student receiving the highest
mark in Introductory New Testament Greek, with a minimum
80% grade.
Karel Marek Preaching Award
Presented by Lawson Heights Pentecostal Assembly
to the student in the graduating year of a diploma or
degree program for excellence in the delivery, content
and especially in the structure of sermons.
The Horizon Faculty Award
Presented to a student who, in the opinion of
the faculty, is of outstanding promise, is in the final
year of a degree program, and who has the declared intention
to pursue further academic studies (to be awarded upon
proof of registration).
The Gordon & Nancy Reigert Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a student in the junior year of
a diploma or degree program who, in the estimation of
the faculty, possesses the conviction and ability to lead
others into a deeper relationship with Christ, demonstrates
personal piety and Christian character, exemplifies the
caring warmth of a pastoral heart, and maintains acceptable
scholarship.
Kerry & Irene Moffatt Scholarship
Awarded annually to a student who has faithfully
attended Westside Pentecostal Church, and who, in the
opinion of the faculty, has demonstrated a pastoral heart
which is evidenced by a servant-like attitude, a compassion
for the lost, a desire to minister, preferably cross-culturally,
and who has maintained an acceptable level of scholarship.
Non-Traditional Ministry Scholarship
Awarded annually to a returning student who senses
a definite call of God in his/her life, as evidenced by
a consistent walk with the Lord. The student ought to
exhibit potential for a non-traditional approach for ministry.
The ‘Good Samaritan’ Award
Presented by Rev. Henry and Doris Schapansky
to the student who, in the opinion of the faculty, during
the past year at Horizon has displayed a willing, diligent,
and cheerful attitude in promoting the well being of college
life and maintenance. This student has consistently been
an example in their willingness to serve others above
and beyond the ordinary, therefore displaying a true ‘servant
heart’, and has maintained passing academic scholarship.
Wilson Waterhouse Scholarship
Granted to assist a native student demonstrating
good character, acceptable academic standing, and who
is continuing at Horizon in preparation for Christian
ministry.
